Here’s a few frames from a headshot photography shoot I did for Ballarat dancer & teacher Olivia Pezzutti, which were created for the 2012 Anita Coutts School of Dance program.

These shots are straight from camera with no retouching as yet. Great skin hey?!

This short film was created over a weekend in Melbourne with a huge effort from everyone involved. Writers Yesse Spence & Teague Rook also acted in the film, while director Matt Dale drove all the way from Sydney, got out of the car & got straight into the filming. As soon as it was wrapped, he jumped straight back in the car for the return trip.

It was all held together by AD extraordinaire Breeze Callahan, along with a whole lot of other fabulous people that helped out to get this great film made.

At each school, I had to give a sense of the environment around the school, as well as photograph teachers highlighting the particular area that they are excelling at with their students. It was fascinating & inspiring to see how individual teachers can have such a big impact & create momentum with students, schools & even the broader community.

I learnt about salt bush along with other native indigenous plants from a school in Huntly that is working closely with the Indigenous community in the area. I learnt about online teaching programs run through schools in Bendigo & Hawkesdale allowing remote students greater access to a wider variety of subjects than their small schools have the capacity to offer. About garden projects, Indigenous culture education, music programs, photography programs, Autism programs, a school who’s kids visit seniors in nursing homes…. really exciting stuff that has kids engaged, learning & growing.

I was also particularly struck by the land in different areas around regional victoria. Australia truly is a diverse country. Every town felt distinct & seemed to reflect it’s landscape.

The day started off sweltering & by the time I lugged my camera case up the steep incline at the Convent Gallery in Daylesford to the very top of the property I was dripping with sweat. Yet 45 minutes later, just after the ceremony finished, we were all racing for cover as a huge storm swept through & drenched everything.

Despite this, the day was awesome & I somehow managed to score my two favourite shots of the day in the few minutes between the ceremony & the storm…

So we planned out some locations & things they liked to do & created a really fun stop motion film. I can’t wait to be able to show it, but so far only have music rights for it to be played for private use. This is something I’m really finding hard to navigate as I’ve moved further into filming, so I might need to hit the drawing board with a different piece of music to put to it in order to show the rest of the world what we came up with.
